HomeSchool Minder version 2.5
Kobalt Software, LLC is very pleased to announce the long awaited version 2.5 HomeSchool Minder update. This update is just the first in a series of updates that we’ll be producing each year as we continue to advance and refine our HomeSchool Minder program. These updates are not intended to be massive programming overhauls, rather a series of precision enhancements that compliment our already rich application.
Below you will find the list of changes that are included in the version 2.5 HomeSchool Minder update.
- Automated backups are now a reality with HSM! We’ve programmed HSM to automatically back up your data upon exiting the application. HSM will keep a series of backup files, up to 14, before it starts to overwrite the oldest file. These backup files will automatically be saved in the newly created subdirectory named AutoBackups. While you can still keep manual backups, we’ve designed HSM to help ease the burden of manually creating them. If you run HSM multiple times throughout the day, only the last backup will be saved. See screenshot below to access this new feature:
Should you need to restore your data, HSM will display all the automatic backups by date for
ease of selection. To restore an automated backup file click Utilities > Auto Backup/Restore > Restore
Auto Backup and select the appropriate file. See screenshot below:
If you need to restore from a manual backup, this process has not changed. Click on Utilities > Restore Data > navigate and select the backup file.
In the future, we will be adding more options to this Auto Backup feature. One such addition will be to give the user a chance to define “How many updates/days worth of backups do you wish to keep?”
- Added the ability to ‘Select All’ when copying assignments and/or lesson plans. See screenshot below:
- HSM will now assign the correct date of the assignment/lesson plan when using the ‘Copy’ feature in both the Gradebook and Lesson Planner modules. Previously HSM would erroneously assign “today’s date” (or the date the ‘Copy’ process was initiated) as the date of the assignment or lesson plan. HSM will now correctly copy the original data of the assignment/lesson plan during the copy process.
- Resized all of the screens in HSM to reduce the need to use the scrolling bars. All screens should now be maximized for optimal viewing.
- Added the ability to ‘Synchronize License’ even after support has expired. This option was added to help make the support renewal process much more efficient in cases where the support has lapsed. In the past, if you had allowed your support to expire, it required a phone call to re-activate your HSM license. Now, without going into too much detail, we’ve eliminated this step from that process.
- Student Transcript Report: We’ve added a blank line in between years on transcripts. For example, a blank line will now print in between the school years of 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Give it a try, we’re confident you’ll love what you see! See screenshot below:
We will also be adding additional functionality to the way transcripts will print in the future.
- Ability to print GPAs, Numeric Averages, Credits Attempted and Earned between every school year that prints on the transcript. Currently HSM only prints a cumulative at the bottom of your transcript.
- Ability to print either the cumulative GPA and/or numeric average on the transcript. Currently HSM defaults to printing both values on the transcripts. However, we have found that some clients would like the ability to print just the GPA, just the Numeric Average or Both.
Before downloading and installing this update, please make sure of the following:
- That you have made a current backup of your HSM data. You can do this by clicking on Utilities > Back Up Data > and selecting a name for the backup as well as where you would like it saved.
- Also, please make sure that HSM is closed, not minimized, before installing the update.
