Assignment Categories

Assignment categories allow you to divide assignments into distinct groups so that they can be weighted differently during grading.

Every assignment you create in HomeSchool Minder must belong to an assignment category.   We've already added three categories for you: Homework, Quiz, and Test.

Adding New Assignment Categories

You can easily add categories of your own by clicking on the Add button in the Assignment Categories header.  Enter the new category name (for example, Worksheet) and click Save.

After saving your new category, you will be able to go to the Gradebook module or the Lesson Plans module and create assignments belonging to the category you just created.

The new category will also be displayed in the grade summary for each term to the right of the Gradebook.

Finally, categories will also be shown in the Reports module, in particular in the Gradebook and Report Card reports.

Weighting

Initially, all categories are weighted equally, but you can change this by going to the Weighting settings page.

Editing and Deleting Assignment Categories

You can also rename an existing category by clicking on the row for that category, editing the name, and clicking Save.

Finally, if you create a category by mistake, you can delete it by placing your cursor on top of the circular drop-down icon in the row for that category, and clicking on the Delete option.
